Founded in September 2000, Lekki British Senior is the original British boarding school in Lagos. Today we offer both day school and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11 to 17.  Our unique features - from our exclusive location to our high level of pastoral care, and our commitment to nurturing individual talents and aspirations - help our students to become self-disciplined, well-rounded citizens with the confidence to fulfil their potential.

We’re very proud of our history of innovation and our pioneering ethos within the educational system here in Nigeria. Our international reputation also continues to go from strength to strength.

We provide opportunities for students to study the broadest possible range of subjects and to acquire a variety of important practical and academic skills.

Dedicated study to encourage successful learning

At Lekki British Senior, we ensure all students follow a broad study programme, carefully designed to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum of England and Wales. Through our programme, we prepare our students for successful completion of their secondary education at IGCSE, AS and A level.

At the end of Year 9, students sit the Key Stage 3 National Test Papers in selected core subjects - English, Mathematics and Science, providing the school with a useful benchmark in assessing the students' progress.

IGCE selection

This process begins in Year 9 where students select subjects for a two year course of study. English and Mathematics are compulsory subjects and students make option choices according to their skills and interests. Each individual student has their own time-table devised to suit their specific needs.

These courses are carefully tailored to suit individual student needs and subjects offered may include:

Art and Design Biology Business Studies
Chemistry Economics English Language
English Literature French Geography
History Mathematics Information Technology
Music Physics Physical Education

AS and A level Selection

AS and A level courses are offered to students in Years 12 and 13 who have achieved a minimum of five C grades in their equivalent IGCSE subjects. These courses are tailored to suit student needs and subjects offered may include:

Art and Design Biology Business Studies
Chemistry Economics English Language
English Literature French Geography
History Computing Mathematics
Music Physics Physical Education

Students buy their IGCSE text books through the school; this ensures resources are available for reference and revision while at the same time facilitating learning.

Extra-Curricula Activities

At Lekki British Senior we recognise strong academic performance alone is not enough. Which is why we invest in extra-curricula activities that help our students to develop and stimulate creativity, build confidence, learn life skills and create social awareness.

Activities include dance, drama, computer, chess and music. Students are also encouraged to take part in community activities such as visiting ages and fund-raising for charity.

School Trips

Student tours and excursions are also part of the Lekki British School experience, with past locations ranging from France, Belgium and Brazil to the sand dunes of the Moroccan desert.

Arts and Culture

Along with our excellent selection of clubs, sporting opportunities and organised day trips, we also encourage an appreciation of the Arts. Students are expected to engage in cultural activities during each academic term, with stimulating drama productions at special celebrations throughout the year.

Dance plays an important role at Lekki British Senior with at least one major annual musical production. In the past this has been undertaken in collaboration with internationally acclaimed artists such as Wayne Williams, a renowned New York choreographer. Productions have ranged from ambitious modern dance Jazz musicals to classical period production of African dance.

We’re very pleased to say that our students regularly gain provincial recognition at state and national level, winning Dance competitions and Performing Arts International school competitions. We have also played host to cultural events which include the Society of Performing Arts of Nigeria (SPAN).

As an international school we are proud to provide the highest possible standard of education to our students, enabling them to compete in an increasingly competitive global environment. The need for us to maintain this standard demands not just that teaching methods are appropriate to the needs of our students but that those students, in turn, are able to demonstrate that they have the potential or ability to achieve the levels we require. Admission will not be based on ethnic, religious or social grounds.

As many students transfer from various curricula, prospective students are required to take an entrance examination. We also conduct an informal interview with the student which forms part of the overall assessment. Admission is at the school's discretion and the school's decision is final. However, unsuccessful applicants may apply again at a later date if they believe they will perform better at the entrance examinations. The school's objective is not to arbitrarily exclude students but rather to select the most suitable applicants based on the school's assessment criteria including the prospective student's academic performance and potential. Only if a student fails to show basic understanding, or shows a lack of potential will they be refused admission.

Outdoor sporting facilities include a basketball court, tennis court, volleyball, football facilities and a semi-Olympic sized swimming pool. Indoor sporting options include Judo, Badminton and Chess which are held within our 800 seating capacity multi-purpose hall. The school also boasts a comfortable 1000 seating capacity dining hall.

Lekki British Senior boasts some of the finest educational facilities in West Africa. All classrooms and laboratories are fully air-conditioned. We have three fully equipped Science laboratories and an Information Technology laboratory equipped with Internet-connected desktop computers.

The arts are well supported at Lekki Junior with a music room with piano, strings, flute and drums. The room is available to all students to explore and develop their musical talents. The school choir can often be found in the music room, practicing and preparing for upcoming performances.

Our well-equipped Art Studio is where students display their creativity through Arts and Design. Their work is displayed around the school and exhibited at special events.

The school library is managed by qualified librarians, with study areas offering students a variety of literary and research facilities, services to students for study research purposes and further reading. Services and facilities include internet access including E mail, books, periodicals, newspapers and, access to our CD ROM databases.

At Lekki British School we recognised the needs of students who have been successful at Yr 11 and require further qualifications to gain admission to UK, US, Canadian and other international universities. To meet this need we are launching the Lekki British Centre for Enterprise and Excellence. Our new centre offers internationally acclaimed courses to young adults who want recognised qualifications to gain entry to elite international universities.

Our inaugural range of qualifications include: University of Cambridge A/AS level subjects, a full range of subjects in the new Cambridge Pre U International Diplomas and a range of internationally recognised BTEC diplomas pitched at Level 3 (A level equivalent) and above in the UK qualifications framework. Additionally, our Foundation Degree course is currently under consideration by over 140 International Universities in USA, UK, Canada, Europe, Australasia, and Asia.

The Lekki British Centre for Enterprise and Excellence is available to students aged 16 and over with the equivalent of 5 IGCSE subjects A* - C including Maths and English. Any students that are not sure if they qualify but would like to attend are requested to contact the school to arrange a personal interview upon which a final decision will be based.

We believe that young people between the ages of 15 and 18 study and mature best, in a slightly less formal environment, with their support networks and family within reasonable proximity. This would best prepare them for university life beyond Nigeria.

At the LBCEE we intend to deliver the very best international education within the ideal environment for young adults living in Nigeria.
