Union Bank of Nigeria Plc Marina Lagos
Union Bank of Nigeria Plc was established in 1917 as Colonial Bank with its first branch in Lagos. In 1925, Barclays Bank acquired the Colonial Bank, which resulted in the change of the Bank's name to Barclays Bank (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas). Following the enactment of the Companies Act 1968 and the legal requirement for all foreign subsidiaries to be incorporated locally, Barclays Bank (D C O) in 1969 was incorporated as Barclays Bank of Nigeria Limited.

Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC Victoria Island Lagos, Nigeria
The Standard Bank Group merged its Nigerian operations, Stanbic Bank Nigeria with that of IBTC Chartered Bank PLC. The merger, by way of the first ever tender offer in Nigeria and a $525 million FDI, the largest in Nigerian financial history, gave birth to a new entity now known as Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC which became part of the Standard Bank Group. The merger was officiated in August of this year and legalised on the 24th of September 2007.
