Uruguay plans new US$250mn water reservoirs

News » Sports

Uruguay's state water company OSE will build two reservoirs for US$250mn to secure water supply for capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area.

The reservoirs will be built on El Soldado and Casupá creeks, but will only supply Aguas Corrientes water treatment plant in case of emergency.

"We're securing this resource until 2045, both in quality and quantity," OSE's head Milton Machado said in a statement.

El Soldado reservoir is expected to have capacity of 27Mm3, and Casupa 100Mm3.

"We're working to have by year-end the terms to call the tender," Machado said, adding works could start in 2015.
