The National  Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has  cautioned  party members against causing cracks of dissension that will work against the interest of the party.

He spoke in Makurdi when the  governor of Niger State, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, who spoke on behalf of the Northern Governors' Forum said the reconciliation tour being carried out by the party's national chairman had given the party hope to continue to win elections in 2015 and beyond.

The PDP chairman, who was speaking at the town hall reconciliation meeting of the North-central zone in Makurdi, said peace and unity were the driving forces the party needs at this time.

According to Tukur, "Peace and unity is the assurance that we need. All the zones we have visited are doing well. Support our administration, support our president, the governors, the party, ensure that we do not leave cracks for dissension, reward will come with support."

Governor Aliyu, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto at the town hall reconciliation meeting, said, "we appreciate the wonderful work you (Tukur) are doing in this country. You have given hope to ordinary members of PDP. Members are now very proud of being PDP-card-carry members. Your reconciliation tour has given us hope that we will continue to win election both in 2015 and beyond.

"All the governors and other stakeholders PDP has put forward are working. They are doing well and are delivering on their mandate. FCT council election was a litmus test on whether the opposition can contend with PDP, but they have failed."

The host governor, Mr. Gabriel Suswan, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Steven Lawani, gave the party National Chairman a pass mark on how he has piloted the affairs of the party so far, adding that the merger of the opposition parties was good but such action does not threaten the ruling party.

Lawani explained that Suswan travelled out of the country for important state assignment, adding that "we are pleased with you as the party National Chairman; your work so far is satisfactory. Since you started this reconciliation tour, it has been satisfactory; we need more of this visit. The current merger of the opposition is good, but it does not threaten our party, it will only help to strengthen our democracy," he said.

The deputy Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Honourable Bala Yusuf asked that the tension on 2015 be doused, adding that Tukur should call for calm and allow performance to be the central point of determination.

Plateau State Governor, Mr. Jonah Jang, who was represented by his deputy, said: "PDP will come out stronger from its present challenges. We will resolve our differences with maturity it requires. If we put our heads together we will definitely get somewhere. We need to come together so that we can live in peace and harmony."

While Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Benue States sent their deputy governors to represent them at the reconciliation town hall meeting, Kwara State was represented by its House of Assembly deputy Speaker and Nasarawa, its party chairman.
