Osun State Government and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) have procured two units of 35KW turbines, to be installed at Ikeji-Ile hill top in Oriade Local Government Area of the state, as a step towards ensuring an uninterrupted power supply in the state.

The project, jointly financed by the state government and UNIDO, is expected to guarantee 24-hour power supply for the communities connected to the mini hydro power generation from the turbines.

Delivering the two turbines to the people of Ikeji-Ile, Chairman of Hydro Power Electricity Generating Company, Mr. Atilade Oshoniyi, said his team would swing into action immediately to install the turbines.

He said the gesture was at the instance of the state government and promised the readiness of UNIDO to continue to support the state, saying it was a new way to create employment for the people at the grassroots level.

Oshoniyi added that the organisation had researched into the natural velocity of water flow from the Ikeji-Ile hill top, saying that it had more than enough water to power 70 kilowatts output being planned for the area.

He described the initiative as novel start in assisting artisans and trading hub such as tailors, welders and other that require constant electricity to perform and export their end products and that Governor Rauf Aregbesola was passionate about the completion of the project in good time for the use of people of the state.

In a reaction, monarchs of Ikeji-Ile and Ira-Ikeji, Oba Adebayo Ogunmokun and Oba Oluropo Fatanmi commended the governor for the kind gesture, adding that the governor had demonstrated to the people of the state that he “is a good servant of his mother land.
“The initiative will go down in history that our communities are the first that will generate power outside PHCN”, they added.
