Nigeria’s Got Talent: Amarachi’s day of glory

Last week, history was made when Amarachi Uyanne  an eight year old dancer took her other contestants unawares and swept the audience off  their feet when she emerged the winner of  Nigeria's got talent show season one,winning a whooping sum of  Ten million naira. 

 The talent hunt show kicked off on the 16th of September 2012, with over 10,000 contestants at the auditions and they were all  jostling for the grand sum of  ten million.

Amarachi emerged the winner from the  ten finalists which was later reduced to six,four and finally three finalists. (Amarachi,Godwin,Jesse and Ogowme). These were rated the best by the votes cast by the viewers at home.

The first casualties in the eviction in the grand finale were DJ Nathenel, Chuka the rapper, Dr. Bariyu and Dog, and the group dancers known as The Expendables.

  Thinking that they have scaled eviction and were geared towards winning the grand prize, the Acapella group from Portharcourt, Impulse,Boniface Ukeme the extraordinary dancer, and Toke the inspirational singer from Ibadan were later evicted,leaving Amarachi, Godwin,Jesse and Ogowme to the viewers who would pick the most talented winner.

    After a much intense and tough responsibility on the part of the audience, Amarachi Uyanne a primary five pupil from Igbodo in Delta State was announced as the winner and the youngest millionaire in Nigeria by Andre Blaze who anchored the show. She is said to have broken the previous record set by Solomon Ubani who became a millionaire at the age of 20. 

Chief executive officer and Managing director, Airtel Nigeria, Rajan Sworoop assisted by the CEO of  Optima Media and Rapid blue format, Mr Rotimi Pedro presented the Cheque of ten million naira to Amarachi.

 In his remarks,Rajan Sworoop said that the event is concerned about creating a platform that would help discover and create young talented Nigerians to attain their greatest heights. According to him, in the last two years of operation in Nigeria, Airtel has shown a great commitment towards building stronger bonds between people and their dreams of becoming what want to become  in a fulfilling future for both individuals and the country alike. His words 'This is one of the platform through which talents are being discovered because we believe helping young talented groups and individuals alike in pursuit of their dreams'. He said.

 In the words of the CEO, Optima Media Group,Mr. Femi Pedro, Nigerians should look out for more in the next season of  Nigeria's Got Talent  where it would be divided into state championships such that every state in the country would host theirs. Then, would be regional championship before we would evolve into the national competition.

He also advised the families of the winner to make use of the money wisely.'With such an amount,  she could be trained to school for the rest of her life' .He also said that they are making plans for next year's edition so that those who come 2nd and 3rd  would also be rewarded and don't return home empty-handed like season one.

  Speaking at the grand finale, Mrs Uyanne, Amarachi's mother  advised that parents should never neglect their children.'So many talents are dead today because most  parents don't pay attention. They should not be overwhelmed'. She also said that every one has something deposited in them and it is left for them to discover themselves.

   In a chat with the press, Amarachi Uyanne said 'I am happy that I won. At first, I was afraid and thought that I would lose, but thank God, I won at the end'.She also said that she was happy emerging  the  winner of Nigeria's Got Talent, season one and would use part of the money to cater for the needy and also use the money for the education of herself and her two younger siblings so as to achieve her goal of being a medical doctor.
