A redesigned Toyota Corolla is coming for 2014, but so far we’ve only seen spy photos of heavily camouflaged prototypes. Apparently, someone at a Toyota dealership in Kansas has seen the car, as well as its order guide, and went ahead and posted details of the latter online. Assuming the dealer’s information is correct, it appears we were spot on in our prediction that Toyota’s changes for the 2014 Corolla will be for the better, if fairly evolutionary.

While the Corolla’s body looks like it will be amped up visually—it likely will be a cross between the awesome Furia concept and Toyota’s larger Camry—the order guide reveals that the car’s mechanical updates will be more involved. Even though the Corolla keeps its 1.8-liter four-cylinder, it adds Toyota’s Valvematic continuously variable valve timing and lift system. (The outgoing engine features VVT-i, which has only variable valve timing.) Base models will continue to offer an ancient four-speed automatic, but the manual transmission adds a sixth gear and the optional automatic on higher trim levels is a CVT. Currently, the Corolla’s engine puts out a so-so 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque; don’t be surprised if those figures nudge upward slightly for 2014. Fuel economy, too, likely will improve.

As for the Corolla’s trim levels, the dealership’s order guide posting indicates that car will continue to offer four specifications, but that their names are slightly changed. Last year’s L, LE, and S trims give way to base, LE, S, and Eco. Fresh options include Softex leather, push-button starting, and navigation. It appears Toyota’s corporate manager of marketing wasn’t messing around when he told us the next Corolla’s interior would step things up. We contacted Toyota for comment and confirmation that the contents of the leaked order guide are factually accurate, but the brand refused to comment on future product.
