Mexico's water commission Conagua is seeking a contractor to build the Santa María dam in Sinaloa state.

The new dam in Rosario city will receive water from the Baluarte river that will be used for irrigation, urban public use and potentially for the generation of electricity, according to documents published on the government's procurement portal CompraNet.

The canal is one of the key irrigation projects pledged by the government for construction over the next four years. Other projects include building the 4 de Abril canal in Baja California state and the Centenario irrigation canal in Nayarit state.

Works are expected to start on December 17 and wrap by December 31, 2017.

Interested parties should submit their bids by November 20. The tender will be awarded on November 27.

The contract will be signed on December 4.
