Emerald High School Lagos

Business Directory » Schools » Secondary schools - Colleges

Emerald High School, a co-educational institution, was established in 2005 as a progression from the highly academically successful Emerald Nursery/Primary School, which was established in 1995. The establishment of Emerald High School was in response to the yearning of parents in the primary school and the need to bridge the gap in providing high quality Secondary School Education in the country.

We are aware of the problems of today’s child, which include a hostile society that has not helped the child to attain his/her full potentials. With a view of making the difference, we at Emerald were mindful of the societal gaps at the inception of the school. The permanent site which became functional from September 2007, has given us even a better opportunity to explore all possibilities in child development. It is located on 34 Acres of farmland in the serene valley of 25 minutes leisurely drive from the former Toll Gate at the Lagos end of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Road.

It is easily accessible from every part of the country through Ibadan or Lagos. It is indeed an ideal learning environment because of its calm scenery and insulation from city noise. TheBoard of Governors which is made up of men and women who have distinguished themselves in their chosen professions which include Accounting, banking, Human Resources Management, Education and Public Service, is very confident of the quality of education they have fashioned out hence some of the members have their children in the school.

Principal's Message

Emerald High School is a co-educational full boarding school. We aim to provide a safe, stimulating and enjoyable learning environment so that all students are motivated to achieve the highest standards of which each is capable.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum to ensure that the students have the widest range of opportunities available to them so that they can leave the school as confident members of the society well prepared for success in employment, continuing education and life.

At Emerald we raise role models and our emphasis is on bringing back the old values particularly in the areas of discipline, respect, courtesy, politeness and industry.

Education in our school is a partnership between us and the parents and spans all activities and this has helped us to maintain a culture in which all students want to succeed.
We welcome you to a beautiful future for your children.

The school is all-boarding and very conducive boarding accommodation has been provided within the school premises for boys and girls. Each hostel is designed such that there is a quadrangle within each block which is used for some form exercises, apart from some in-door recreational games.

The key staff of the school, including the Principal and Vice Principal are resident in the school premises in order to create a family-like learning environment.

The school has two hostels tagged “Oak” for boys and “Olive” for girls. Each hostel has a common room for relaxation and well maintained conveniences. Each hostel is supervised by experienced and well exposed house parents. Since the students are well fed, provision is not allowed in the school. No form of extravagance is also allowed. For the girls anything outside stud earring is not permitted, while for boys, designer belt is prohibited.

A typical day in the school starts at 5:30am with devotion. A head count is done before the devotion starts. After this students engage in their morning chores. This is when they lay their beds and perform their assigned morning duties with the supervision of the house parents. Between 6:45am and 6:50am, the students leave for dining hall to have their breakfast, which usually lasts for 30 minutes before morning assembly.

General Assemblies are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Form Tutor’s assembly and House assembly hold on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively. For Mondays’ assemblies, it is a seating assembly conducted by students for forty minutes on class basis with the assistance of teachers on duty. A Virtue is selected for each month and emphasised at all assemblies throughout the month.

After each assembly, lessons commence and terminate at 2:20pm. Lunch is served from 2:20pm to 3:00pm and the students return to the hostel to have their siesta. At 4:00pm, learning support classes for the academically challenged students begin and terminate at 6:00pm. Other students begin their afternoon prep from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Dinner is served by 7:00pm after which, night prep commences till 9:30pm. It is also the tradition for students to have their night prayer before light out at 10:30pm.
